ABOUT THOMAS DODD
Thomas Dodd is a visual artist and photographer based in Atlanta, Georgia, who has developed a signature style he calls painterly photo montage. Through a unique blending of photography and post-processing, he layers and fuses multiple images into richly textured compositions that feel organic, timeless, and decidedly non-digital.
His work frequently explores mythic and quasi-religious themes, drawing inspiration from Old Master painting traditions as well as invoking psychological archetypes that aim to stir deep emotional responses in the viewer.
Thomas began his career as a visual artist in 2005. Before that, he was best known as the harpist and songwriter for the 1990s ensemble Trio Nocturna, a Celtic Gothic musical group that released three critically acclaimed albums ( Morphia, Tears of Light, and Songs of the Celtic Night ), performed at author Anne Rice’s legendary Halloween balls in New Orleans and garnered much acclaim and recognition in the underground 90s “Goth” scene.. Thomas also played harp on two albums by Michael Gira (of the influential post-punk band Swans): The Body Lovers and Angels of Light: New Mother.
The images he creates today can be seen as a visual counterpart to the music he composed in the 1990s— mythic themes and their relation to psychological states remain the driving force behind his creative process, whether expressed through sound or vision.
Thomas has exhibited his work in museums and galleries worldwide - from Paris to Tokyo to New York City. Many of his large-scale works are presented in mixed media formats, adding a physical depth and tactile texture that further enhances the visual experience. The result is a body of work that bridges photography and fine art, and invites viewers into a world that feels both immediate and ancient, intimate and universal, and timeless in it’s intention and impact.
